Safe Ice
« on: January 21, 2016, 10:18:59 AM »
For new, clear ice only

2" or less - STAY OFF
4" - Ice fishing or other activities on foot
5" - Snowmobile or ATV
8" - 12" - Car or small pickup
12" - 15" - Medium truck

Note: these guidelines are for new, clear solid ice.
Many factors other than thickness can cause ice to be unsafe.

I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.-henry David Thoreau

A lot of people cant get back onto the ice if they cant touch the bottom.
